Zero Blood Deficit
Connecting seeker with Voluntary Blood Donor
“Blood can’t be manufactured anywhere except inside a human body”
Blood transfusion is required every second each day, around the world by people of ages from all walks of life. Many peoples lives depend on safe blood transfusion. There is disparity in the amount of blood available between nations.
Only about 40% of the blood collected each year is donated in developing countries, which are home to over 80% of the world’s population.
The average number of blood donations per 1 000 population is 12 times higher in high-income countries than in low-income countries.
An overwhelming 99% of the 500, 000 women who die each year during pregnancy and childbirth live in developing countries, with haemorrhage-which invariably requires blood transfusion-the most common cause of maternal deaths.
In Africa, approximately 70% of all blood transfusions are given to children with severe anaemia due to malaria, the leading cause of death among children under the age of five.
The health-related Millennium Development Goals to reduce child mortality, improve maternal health and prevent HIV infection cannot be achieved without equitable and universal access to safe blood.
The world population is ~7.2B and out of which ~3.7 B people are in the age group of 19-64 yrs. The Blood units collected worldwide are one .11B. In india alone there is a blood shortage of 3m units.
~40% of the blood units collected are from paid donors and 40% are replacement (family/friends).
The shelf life of blood id 35-42 days and the ability to derive other components from blood (e.g. plasma, platelets) is expensive and limited.
Keeping all the above constraints, we are trying to connect Voluntary Blood Donors with the needy.
Our Mission – Zero blood deficit and 100% voluntary blood donation by 2017.
This will address the problem of
storing the blood,
